Those of us who firmly believe that renewable fuels will lead Spain’s energy autonomy would like to congratulate the CRECEMOS Association for helping to drive us towards the future.

On 7 May, the Spanish Congress of Deputies hosted the event “Strategic Autonomy, Industrial Competitiveness and Decarbonisation”, organised by the Association with a highly successful turnout.

The event brought together a significant number of public representatives, companies, experts and professionals. The growing interest in advances in renewable fuels shows us that, on the one hand, this energy alternative is already a present-day reality and, on the other, that there is both the will and the capacity to develop it further.

Beyond the depth of knowledge shared, the event reinforced the desire to contribute solutions that can help Spain lead the energy transition.

The event, which strengthened dialogue between the value chain and the public sector, focused primarily on the following key points:

Decarbonisation as an immediate solution for mobility.

The potential of renewable fuels, which are estimated to be capable of covering more than 33% of demand by 2030.

The economic impact of the sector, which already generates 238,000 direct jobs and represents 5% of GDP.

The need to advocate for technological neutrality, ensuring that 100% renewable fuels are recognised on an equal footing with electric mobility and hydrogen.

At Ibero Waste, as members of the CRECEMOS Network, we are committed to solutions that are already available and capable of drastically reducing emissions without requiring changes to existing engines.

This is a strategy closely linked to the circular economy and territorial autonomy, as was reflected throughout the event. Today, supporting national production, waste valorisation, technological neutrality and industrial competitiveness is much more than an immediate, scalable and compatible solution for maritime, land and air transport. It also means reducing external dependence through the use of local waste.
